Why Winning a hand in Casino is not Just Luck

Why Winning a hand in Casino is not Just Luck

There has been a long standing debate about whether Judi bola games are all about luck or they do require some skills too. Before we look for the answers to this universal question, we must know that if we believe that games of luck require certain skills, we can also not deny that the skill based casino games do require some luck too.

Though gambling is totally a matter of pure fortune but when combined with skill it can help you grab constant wins. What makes a gambler skilled is, knowing the right and most advantageous time to place a bet. Their understanding about how the game actually works is what makes them outshine among the public players.

The main strategy while playing certain casino games is to try and lower the house edge. You need to apply strategies that help you get an extra edge over the house. Choosing the right game is also one another important task. Casinos usually earn the most through solely luck based games like roulette and slot machines. Playing more of skill based games like poker and black jack can help you provide an upper hand.

To your surprise, you must know that most of the Vegas casinos hire math graduates to make sure that the ball always stays in their court. Of course they look for handsome profits for themselves in the long run. But in poker, house cannot be benefited directly.  They do earn indirectly, but that is a fixed amount.

Poker as a game of skill or luck ?

What most people believe is that poker is just a game of luck but luck is not the only thing that’s making this game a boom. Luck alone cannot let you be a millionaire. Most professional pokers make the best mathematical decisions and therefore make the odds run in their favor for long terms. Biggest advantage of the game is that it is played against other opponents and not the house. As we know house is what always wins, so poker is a skill game and not just a luck game. If you are a winner once, doesn’t mean you will be a winner always. The most benefit one can grasp is through the mistakes of their opponents. You need to know how to turn their mistakes into your assets.

Monte Carlo fallacy

The name is derived from the famous phenomenon occurred at Monte Carlo casino in 1913. Also known as the Gambler’s fallacy or the doctrine of the maturity of chances. It is actually a costly misunderstanding of chance. It is a delusion that if an event occurs more frequently than normal during a given period, the chances of it happening in the future turns less or vice versa.

For instance – If you start flipping a coin, and it turns out to be tails, you flip it again and it’s tails again. You do wait for 10 continuous times and its tales every single time. So at some point you start expecting that now for the next chance, it will be heads. This is exactly what we call the gambler’s fallacy. Logically, in the event of flipping a coin, the chances of getting a heads or tails  is 50- 50, no matter that you have had a long streak of heads or tails, chances are ought to remain equal. Likewise in a game of roulette, if the wheel hits black in a long streak, the delusion of it hitting red in the future starts bubbling up. This is what we call the Gambler’s fallacy.

This fallacy has made Vegas built multi- billion dollar casinos, 20-storey hotels and penthouse suites.

Does systems work at casinos?

Talking about the infamous Martingale system, also commonly called as the roulette strategy. The idea is that if you increase your bet after every loss, when you eventually win, the lost money is recovered from the wins. The problem with the system is that it is very risky and its actually just increasing your chances to win in the short term. Here you might win more than usual spins, but the amount of your win shall be small. On the other hand the amount you might lose can be really really BIG.

The dangerous green zero pocket, that represents the house edge can beat even the flawless martingale system.

Not all but a few casinos have betting limits at the table, which means they can stop you from betting after long and continuous  losing streaks. Hence you cannot double up again and play further, which eventually makes you lose your money.

Therefore, it’s crystal clear that systems do not work at casinos.

Can you overrule the lack factor?

Well the simple answer to this question is to NOT PLAY AT ALL. And if that sounds too naive, then at least try to go for the games that involve skill too. Try sticking to the games with favourable house edges or skill gambling games like poker. We cannot deny that most casino games involve luck. So even with the best betting decisions but a poor luck, you are likely to end up losing. Always try to bank winnings when you’re ahead. Remember that you have to stop somewhere, so it’s wise to play only a strict percentage of your bankroll.

Looking at both the factors involved, we can learn that luck and skill both go hand in hand at casinos.
